Why Join a CrossFit Gym?

Did you know that Pottstown Athletic Club is a CrossFit gym? CrossFit is a great workout because it gives you a total body workout that will get you in the best shape of your life.  It is designed to make you not specialize in anything, but to be good in everything. The use of anaerobic workouts improves your anaerobic fitness and aerobic fitness. If you only do aerobic workouts like long, slow runs then you are only improving your aerobic fitness in addition to losing muscle. Anaerobic workouts have been shown to be the best way to lose fat because you keep burning fat long after you are done working out.  Talk to anyone who has been doing CrossFit for a while and they will attest to the effectiveness of these types of workouts. CrossFit is all about real people who are getting great results. Better yet, CrossFit is for everyone! According to CrossFit Headquarters, the CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect applica

Back to School – a Great Time to Get Fit!

Now that school’s ready to start, parents are also getting back into the swing of things. Now is the perfect time for parents and kids alike to start a fitness routine. Don’t wait until New Year’s Day or a big event to get back into shape. The holidays are just around the corner with a lot of activities and events that cause people to put on weight. Summer is over and things may seem chaotic right now, getting back into the routine of school.   That free time that you had over the summer months has dissipated into thin air. This can make working out quite challenging at times. The struggle is real, but not impossible. Creating a plan of action can help to get you on the right track to fitness and better health.  It can be difficult to find time to exercise with such a hectic schedule. Take a few minutes to identify gaps or available times in your day. Having dedicated days and times that you set for exercise will ensure you stay consistent and continue to see result

Why CrossFit?

Thinking about starting a CrossFit program? CrossFit is a great way to stay fit and get variety in your workouts. The CrossFit program is based on the concepts of interval training and weightlifting. There are many health benefits from participating regularly in a CrossFit program! We have affordable individual and monthly memberships available! Intensity:  CrossFit is a fast-paced, intense workout that can take less a regular workout at your gym. This is because a CrossFit workout uses nonstop movement. It’s a concentrated shot of exercise and it burns the system — in a good way. Motivation:  The key to CrossFit is the intensity, but hidden in that fact is that you’re inherently pushing yourself to do the most you can through each exercise in the workout. Time efficient:  In a span of 15 or 20 minutes, you’ll be asked to complete as many rounds of a specific circuit as you can. By the end of it, because of the intensity and effort, you burn more calories than a regular workou

If you've got a twenty-pound vest or body armor, wear it.  Free and Open to the Public - All are Welcome - Everyone is encouraged to participate...Kids ride can their bike or scooter, scale the push-ups on your knees, can't do pull-ups? do jumping jacks in place, can't squat? Pottstown Karate

This program offers an avenue of expression and socializing for area youth who find team activities difficult for whatever reason. Some in the Karate train for free because of their socioeconomic origins. This discipline teaches valuable personal management skills that these children have not been learning elsewhere for a variety of reasons. Karate is the art of unarmed self-defense. Karate is a Japanese phrase meaning   "kara"   - (empty),   "te"   - (hand), or the way of the empty hand. Karate is a centuries old martial art, formally introduced in Japan by Master Gichin Funakoshi. Since the 1950s, karate has been practiced throughout the United States and other parts of the world. CrossFit Testimonial – Lori

I remember my first taste of CrossFit very clearly, about a year ago.  My son had invited me and my daughter, his sister, to Pottstown CrossFit’s Annual River Run.  Wanting to try something new, we took him up on the offer.  Little did I know that it was anything but a RUN.  During the run, various workout stations were set up to include tire flips, kettle ball swings, and thrusters.  Considering that I had not done any type of physical activity over the past 4 years, due to working full time, raising 2 teenagers, and attending graduate school, I was feeling really out of shape during the workout.  However, one of the things that I noticed really quickly was that everyone was so supportive and helped me and my daughter throughout the course of the run.  Everyone was encouraging and showed us each routine at each station.  After completing the run I felt exhausted, but at the same time felt a sense of accomplishment.  It was at that time that I made a commitment to make a lifestyle cha
